It's the economy stupid... Economy of scale, macro economics, accounting, fiscal drag, call it what you will, but money is a pain in the butt... or really, what I should say.... the lack of money is a pain in the butt!
We have a job, it costs £3,500 in parts, labour and overheads... we charge the client £5,000, that's business after all... we get a 10% deposit to show goodwill... £500. Now I have to spend £1,800 on parts, accessories, scaffolding, I have to pay two guys wages, run the van, overnight accomodation and feed the varmits too! Fortunatly we only have to wait less than a week after completeing the job before we are paid in full, but that is just a glimpse of our daily grind.
We have credit accounts where possible, we have a great team in the office knocking suppliers down to the bare knuckle and we have Jenny in admin who looks for the cheapest 'acceptable' hotel for our guys... they ain't royality, but we have to have some standards here don't we?
Unitl the company grows to having a minimum of three substantial jobs per week this is how things are... living hand to mouth and buying own brand coffee sweetened by custard cream biscuits... shuch is the life of a modern day excuitive!

So this is Year One, Month One, Day One... we need an office. I am happy to say that we have an office... it's an expense I would rather not have to pay... but now we can apply for a bank account... then we can get on to the buying stock, filling the van, setting off on the road and helping people to save money on their energy bills, from a company who will actually give a damn.
